This is a finely hand-carved Japanese Netsuke made during the Edo Period (18th Century) that depicts a Chinnan Sennin. He is standing on one foot, and he is dressed with a long robe. He is holding the string of large hat over his right shoulder. Excellent detail and expression. Great two-tone patina. Large himotoshi, common of netsuke from this period. Unsigned. It measures 1.21 inches (3.1cm), and 2.77 inches (7.15cm) tall. Netsuke is in excellent preserved condition. *** A very similar example is shown on page 64 of Volume 2 of "Netsuke, 112 Masterpieces, The Trumpf Collection" *** Provenance: This piece was purchased at auction at Bonhams, London, as part of a small group of netsuke acquired there.
