A DAYAZHAI, TIANDI YI JIA CHUN marked, red-ground, Imperial Dragon decorated Jardiniere, Guangxu marked. and of the Period An extraordinaire Chinese porcelain jardiniere decorated with dragons, and Chinese traditional flowers. Large round form body with generous rim. Soft red ground with encircling dragons (that in Chinese culture is the most powerful imperial symbol that represent the Emperor (just like the Phoenix that represents the Empress) that gives him supernatural powers and the ability to control cosmic forces, and a feasting of Traditional Chinese flowers: chrysanthemums, peonies, Hibiscus, azaleas, plum blossoms, and Trichosanthes Kirilowis. Its Interior and underside decorated in deep turquoise. Delightful robin's egg blue border tom rim with scrolling and floral decorations. The jardinière is marked with the characters Dayashai ( The Hall of Great Elegance), and the oval seal reading Tiandi Yi Jia Chun (Spring throughout heaven and earth as one family) in iron-red on the top of the jardiniere nears its border, and Yong Qing Chan Chun four-character mark on the underside of the jardinière that translates into 'Eternal Blessings and Youthfulness'. These distinctive marks and decoration are considered to have been first commissioned by the Dowager Empress Cixi during the Tongzhi reign, Qing Dynasty, and continuing after 1875 when she installed her nephew Guangxu on the throne. <br /> A pair of similar Dayazhai yellow-ground grisaille-decorated, Guangxu-period, jardinieres were sold at Christies, Hong Kong, on 27 November 2019 for HKD 100,000 or $12,739.15 (photo #11 The exact same Jardiniere, with Yellow ground color, with the same design of Dragons and traditional Chinese flowers, was sold at[Aurora Antique Auction House Ltd](https://www.liveauctioneers.com/auctioneer/7987/aurora-antique-auction-house-ltd/), Ontario, Canada, for $5,500 plus 20% premium ($6,600) on 17 August 2022.
