This is an exquisitely finely carved Pale Celadon Jade figure of a Guan Yin, sitting with a Lotus plant behind her, and a lotus flower on her left. The goddess has flowing robes and shows a serene expression. The stone is of a flawless color all throughout. This carving depicts Guan Yin, the bodhisattva of compassion and mercy in Mahayana Buddhism. Guan Yin is revered as a source of unconditional love and is often depicted, as seen her, holding or having a lotus flower by her side, symbolizing purity and enlightenment. The figure's serene expression and flowing robes are characteristic of traditional depictions of Guan Yin in East Asian art. Jade carvings of Guan Yin have been produced in China for centuries, with the finest examples dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. This Jade carving was made during the the late 19th century.
