This is an original, most complete, excellently preserved, WWII US ARMY AIR CORPS A-2 FLIGHT JACKET, size 40, in an incredible preserved condition, worn by LT C. B. MC CULLOUGH (his name written on the leather name tag right above the SQUADRON patch) [FROM THE 449TH BOMBARDMENT GROUP] on the left chest side of the jacket. The left arm sleeve exhibits the patch of the 15th Air Forces. The right arm sleeve has a patch with the colors of the US Flag attached, and the shoulders show the rank insignia patches of a First Lieutenant of the US Army Air Corps. The inside of the jacket has the original manufacturer label that specifies A.A. F. contract No. W535-AC-27753, that, according to US Army Corps records, was assigned to THE CABLE RAINCOAT CO., on 29-APR-42. This particular contract was for the manufacture of 50,000 A-2 Flight Jackets. The Cable Raincoat Co. name was not written on the labels of the jackets they manufactured under this contract. The Jacket is in excellent preserved condition, without any stains, rips or holes, inside and out. One of the best condition A-2 Leather Flight Jackets that I have seen. The leather is still soft on the entire jacket, with a perfect brown patinated color. Strong stitching. ++Conmar zipper++ in good working order. Leather is in excellent condition throughout. The light brown colored lining is also in excellent condition all over. The original waistband is in excellent condition as well. The left hand cuff has a couple of minor pulls and snags, but the right hand cuff is in excellently preserved condition. THIS JACKET ISCOMPLETE, with all patches, component accessories required of an A-2 jacket at the time when it was worn. SEE PHOTO #10. IT HAS THE RANK, INSIGNIA, PATCHES, UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT, MAJOR COMMAND, US FLAG, THAT WERE REQUIRED OF A-2 JACKETS WHEN WWII PILOTS WORE THEM. NO JACKET BEING SOLD OUT THERE IS AS COMPLETE AS THIS ONE IS. Overall, this is an outstanding example of WWII fighter .pilot A-2 leather jacket that will stand out in your WWII display, but, that is also in wearable condition.
