This is an original WWII US ARMY AIR CORP A-2 FLIGHT JACKEt, size 40, worn by K. E. Holmes (his name written on the leather name tag right above the 9^TH^ FIGHTER SQUADRON patch on the left side of the jacket. The 9^th^ Fighter Squadron belonged to the 49^TH^ FIGHTER GROUP, 5^TH^ US AIR FORCE. The inside of the jacket has the original manufacturer label that specifies A.A. F. contract No. W535-AC-27753, that, according to US Army Corps records, was assigned to THE CABLE RAINCOAT CO., on 29-APR-42. This particular contract was for the manufacture of 50,000 A-2 Flight Jackets. The Cable Raincoat Co. name was never written on the labels of the jackets they manufactured. The Jacket is in excellent condition for its age. It shows gently handled wear. It is better preserved that most samples that I have seen. The leather is still soft on the body of the jacket, and a little stiffer on its sleeves, with a perfect brown patinated color. Strong stitching. ++Conmar zipper++ in good working order. Leather is in excellent condition throughout, with the exception of a couple of tiny punctured, but unopened areas on the right sleeve, and a couple of small punctured (although uncut) areas on the left sleeve. The lining is in great condition with the exception of a couple of rips in the neck area. The original waistband is in good condition, as well as the cuffs that have a couple of pulls and snags, and an open area on the edge of the right sleeve. An original WWII US Army Corps 9th Fighter Squadron uniform patch is also included. See photo #11. Overall, this is an excellent example of WWII fighter pilot A-2 leather jacket that will stand out in your WWII display, but, that is also in wearable condition.
